Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive has removed modder Dark Space from YouTube after receiving a copyright removal request over his speculative version of Grand Theft Auto 6’s map in Grand Theft Auto 5. The mod, which was created to recreate the unreleased sequel’s Florida reimagining, sparked debate among fans and garnered significant attention.
Dark Space initially removed links to download the mod due to the copyright strike but later explained the situation in a video, speculating that Take-Two took action because the map was too accurate. He believes the company sees mods like his as a threat to the surprise of GTA 6’s release, potentially affecting sales. Dark Space criticized Take-Two for targeting mods and fan projects, including those that enhanced gameplay at launch.
The modder announced he won’t continue creating content for Grand Theft Auto 5 due to repeated video takedowns. He emphasized the importance of community work in building hype for games like GTA 6 and called on Take-Two to engage directly with creators instead of relying on copyright strikes.
