Rodgers and Kupp Hit Open Market After Trades

Former Super Bowl MVPs Aaron Rodgers and Cooper Kupp are now free agents after being cut by the New York Jets and Los Angeles Rams, respectively. The moves come as the NFL league year began on Wednesday with both players failing to find a trade partner.

Kupp was released by the Rams just days after signing Davante Adams as his replacement, reportedly due to the team’s inability to secure a trade for him. With Kupp owed $20 million this upcoming season, no other team was willing to make a trade. The 2021 AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year won the receiving triple crown and Super Bowl MVP in that season.

Meanwhile, quarterback Aaron Rodgers was released by the Jets following a two-year stint where he and the offense struggled with consistency. Rodgers worked his way back from an injury but had a lackluster return, throwing for 28 touchdowns and 3,897 yards but lacking mobility.

With several teams still searching for a starting quarterback, Rodgers becomes a potential option alongside Justin Fields, who was signed by the Jets earlier in the week. The New York Giants, Pittsburgh, and Minnesota are among the teams that could potentially be interested in signing him.
