Rodney Hood Named Acting Comptroller of the Currency

The Trump administration has appointed former National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chair Rodney Hood as the acting comptroller of the currency, effective Monday.

Hood served as NCUA Board chair from April 2019 to January 2021 and was also vice chair from 2005 to 2009. In a statement, he expressed gratitude for Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s trust and commitment to promoting an effective regulatory environment without being excessive.

He succeeds Acting Comptroller Michael J. Hsu, who has held the role since May 10, 2021. Hood thanked Hsu for his dedicated public service and commitment to strengthening the U.S. banking system.

A North Carolina native with a degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Hood’s appointment drew praise from Bob Broeksmit, president/CEO of the Mortgage Bankers Association. Broeksmit noted that Hood’s extensive experience in financial services and regulation will serve him well in his new role, particularly in promoting innovation in the banking sector to benefit all Americans.
