Roglic Wins Volta a Catalunya with Final-Stage Victory

Slovenian cyclist Primoz Roglic secured his second Volta a Catalunya title in three years, winning the seventh and final stage in Barcelona. Roglic finished 14 seconds ahead of Belgian duo Laurens de Plus and Lennert van Eetvelt over an 88km route.

The 35-year-old rider from Red-Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe started the final stage behind Juan Ayuso but ultimately took the lead, finishing 28 seconds ahead of the Spaniard in the general classification. British teenager Matthew Brennan lit up the race with two sprint finishes in the opening and fifth stages.

Roglic’s victory follows his win in the Volta a Catalunya last year. The rider expressed enjoyment during the week-long event, stating that he was “pretty much enjoying this week” as he prepared for the Giro d’Italia.

Laurens de Plus and Lennert van Eetvelt claimed second and third places respectively in both the final stage and general classification. Netherlands’ Lorena Wiebes successfully defended her Gent-Wevelgem title, while Denmark’s Mads Pedersen retained his Flanders Field crown from last year.
