Golf superstar Rory McIlroy claimed a two-shot victory at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, a course he fondly referred to as a “cathedral of golf.” The 35-year-old Northern Irishman finished with a final-round six-under-par, taking home $3.6 million in prize money and his 27th PGA Tour win.
McIlroy’s impressive performance was marked by remarkable consistency throughout the tournament. He closed the gap on Sunday, shooting four birdies and an eagle to outlast Ireland’s Shane Lowry, who finished second. McIlroy had initially struggled with his ball flight before discovering a new golf ball that he credits with helping him achieve his hole-in-one.
“I was messing around at the Grove, trying different balls,” McIlroy explained about his switch from the 2024 TaylorMade TP5x to the TP5. “I really loved how I felt, and it’s reacted well around the greens.” The change in ball led to a more consistent game for McIlroy, who was able to outlast Lowry despite mounting pressure from other competitors.
American Scottie Scheffler also made an impressive appearance at the tournament, finishing ninth after suffering a setback with a hand injury sustained while rolling ravioli dough on Christmas Day. With this win, McIlroy marks a promising start to his season, setting himself up for success in upcoming events like The Genesis Invitational.
