Former F1 champion Nico Rosberg has criticized Max Verstappen for the lenient penalty he received after colliding with George Russell during the Spanish Grand Prix. The Dutch driver was handed a 10-second penalty, which Rosberg believes is too lenient.
Rosberg, who was commentating on the Sky Sports F1 broadcast, felt that the penalty was “very lenient” and that Verstappen’s actions were “extremely unacceptable.” He compared the incident to a similar one between Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton in Baku 2017, which would have warranted a black flag.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner shot down Rosberg’s comments, calling them “quite sensational” and refusing to comment further. Verstappen also acknowledged Rosberg’s criticism, stating that it was just his opinion.
The incident has sparked debate among F1 fans, with some defending Verstappen’s actions as a legitimate defensive move, while others believe he should have been penalized more severely for his role in the collision.
