RTX 5090 Outperforms RTX 4090 by 36% in Blender Benchmark

Nvidia’s upcoming graphics cards, the RTX 5090 and RTX 5090D, have appeared in the Blender benchmark database, showcasing decent performance compared to the outgoing RTX 4090.

The RTX 5090 outperformed its predecessor by 36%, while the RTX 5090D was 40% faster than the RTX 4090D. However, it’s essential to note that these results were likely obtained from different computers due to variations in CPU and RAM specifications.

Despite the relatively small sample size of benchmarks for these specific GPUs, the results demonstrate a notable performance improvement. The fact that both cards performed similarly, despite being derived from different systems, lends credibility to their actual performance.

A 40% increase in performance over the previous generation might seem substantial on paper but falls short of the significant leap seen with the RTX 4090 compared to its predecessors. This is largely due to the RTX 5090’s lower CUDA core count compared to the RTX 4090.

Nvidia’s reliance on AI may play a role in achieving performance claims for these new graphics cards, as it did for the RTX 5070. Further evaluations will be necessary to confirm the actual performance of the RTX 50 series.
