Rubio blocked visas for wounded Palestinian children seeking medical care

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been condemned by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) over his decision to block visas for Palestinian children who were wounded in Gaza and are seeking medical treatment in the US. CAIR Deputy Executive Director Edward Ahmed Mitchell called the move “insanity” and accused Rubio of acting under pressure from far-right activist Laura Loomer.

Oxfam has also warned that Israel’s plan to displace Palestinians again would deepen an already devastating pattern of destruction and suffering. The aid organization said every nation must act to stop this crime.

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has welcomed Trump’s call for allowing foreign journalists into Gaza, but criticized Israeli authorities for blocking outside reporters from entering the territory. CPJ chief global affairs officer Gypsy Guillen Kaiser said it is time to break the chokehold on reporting about the devastating conflict in Gaza.

Gaza authorities have released grim numbers highlighting the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe in the territory, including 1,965 Palestinians killed and 14,701 injured since Israel’s assault began. At least 263 people, including 112 children, have died from Israeli-induced hunger and malnutrition.

Journalists and human rights experts are calling for new ways to protect Palestinian journalists in Gaza, with suggestions including sanctions on Israeli officials, media strikes, coordinated blackouts, and war crimes charges at the International Criminal Court.
