House Secretary of State Marco Rubio testified before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, fielding questions on foreign aid, nuclear proliferation, and other global issues. Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Calif., repeatedly asked Rubio to answer questions with a “yes” or “no,” but Rubio refused.
Sherman questioned Rubio about a potential nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia, stating that there has been no conversation about entering into one. Rubio replied, saying he was willing to provide more information if needed, but Sherman cut him off.
The exchange turned tense when Sherman accused Rubio of filibustering, comparing it to Senate debates. Rubio responded by saying the hearing is not a “game show” and that he should be allowed to answer his questions thoroughly.
Sherman then asked whether Rubio could assure Congress that the Trump administration would continue sanctions on Iran until they verifiably agree to abandon all nuclear enrichment. Rubio replied that there was no agreement, but Sherman pressed him for a simple yes or no answer.
The hearing, which focused on protecting American interests, saw Rubio assert that any government actions must have measurable outcomes for the people.
