Rubio Embroiled in Immigration Controversy Over Unsubstantiated Claims

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio faced intense questioning from Senate Democrats over his support for President Trump’s agenda and his role in the deportation of Salvadoran immigrants. Rubio, who has been criticized for making unsubstantiated claims about some deportees, was grilled by Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen and others on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Van Hollen, who campaigned for a deported immigrant in El Salvador, expressed regret over confirming Rubio to his position. He also pointed out that Rubio made derogatory comments about the immigrant without providing evidence. Rubio responded by claiming he knew of deportees involved in organized crime, but offered no proof.

Separately, Rubio was questioned about a private dinner at President Trump’s golf club in northern Virginia, which is set to feature foreign investors and top 220 participants in a cryptocurrency meme coin. When asked for information on the attendees, Rubio claimed not to have any knowledge of the event or its participants.
