Ruby Franke’s Daughter Reveals Abuse, Seeking Freedom from Troubled Past

Shari Franke, the eldest daughter of convicted child abuser Ruby Franke, has written a memoir detailing alleged abuse she suffered as a child. In her book “The House of My Mother,” Shari shares stories of physical and psychological abuse inflicted by her mother, who was also convicted of four counts of child abuse in 2023.

Shari claims that her mother’s behavior changed after Ruby Franke met Jodi Hildebrandt, a Mormon family counselor. The alleged abuse shifted from physical to more psychological, with Shari saying she found messages on her laptop expressing frustration about their relationship. Shari believes her mother cannot fully comprehend the guilt of what she pleaded guilty to.

As part of her healing journey, Shari has been advocating for change, particularly in regards to parents monetizing their children online. She spoke to lawmakers in Utah about the dangers of family vlogging and called for greater restrictions on the practice, especially when children are too young to consent.

Shari’s father, Kevin Franke, expressed pride in his daughter’s strength and courage. Shari told her mother she is “happy without you,” indicating a desire to move forward and heal from their troubled past.
