Marvelous has shared new information about the highly anticipated game, Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma. The latest updates have been compiled from the franchise’s official social media accounts and reveal more about the setting, monsters, and gameplay.
The land of Azuma was once a thriving country with mountains and seas, but it was ravaged by a mysterious phenomenon known as the Celestial Collapse. This event caused the loss of runes, leading to the disappearance of nature and seasons. The eastern country of Azuma is now an island nation surrounded by sea, shattered into thousands of pieces by the Celestial Collapse.
Players can travel between the continent of Adonea and Azuma using ships or airships, with some individuals even using magic to traverse the distance. The culture of Azuma combines Japanese traditions with Western influences, evident in everyday life, food, and items carried by locals.
Monsters originally inhabited a forest called Beginnings, but due to space distortion caused by the Blight, they began appearing in the world. In this game, Tamitaya spells are used to enchant weapons, making defeated monsters return to their original habitat instead of dying.
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma features various Japanese yokai, including the Kappa and Paranormal Parasol. The Kappa is a water spirit known for its love of cucumbers and sumo wrestling, while the Paranormal Parasol is a type of Tsukumogami that appears at night.
The game follows Subaru and Kaguya, two Earth Dancers who save the world through dance. As players, they will restore Azuma to its former glory by navigating the land’s challenges. The game features non-combat tools like parasols and drums, as well as relationships with locals and romance options for both gods and mortals.
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma is set to release in Spring 2025 for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. A physical limited edition can be pre-ordered.
