Jagex has made a surprise announcement by releasing RuneScape: Dragonwilds, an open-world survival crafting spin-off game set in the RuneScape universe, just two weeks after its initial announcement. The game allows players to survive solo or online cooperatively with up to three friends in a vibrant, colorful environment.
Set on the “forgotten continent” of Ashenfall, players must build shelter, craft equipment, and combat dragons as they progress through quests and level up their gear and skills. While the setup is standard for survival games, it’s the game’s art style and whimsical elements that set it apart from other titles.
As a spin-off of the main MMORPG, Dragonwilds aims to attract both longtime fans and new players interested in open-world survival crafting. With alpha testing already underway since late 2024, Jagex has incorporated player feedback into its development process.
Although a full release is planned for early 2026, the game will remain in Early Access “as long as it takes” to ensure optimal gameplay. With its unique blend of exploration and combat, Dragonwilds is now available on Steam Early Access for purchase.
