Jagex has announced a new spin-off game called Dragonwilds, a co-operative survival RPG set in the same fantasy realm as its popular MMO. The game takes place on the continent of Ashenfall and aims to “slay the Dragon Queen”. While it’s primarily a survival game, players will face a mix of tasks, including hunting dragons and managing their environment.
Dragonwilds blends high fantasy with light RPG elements and features a magical power called Anima. Players can summon spectral axes to automate tree-chopping or channel nature’s energy to repair broken armor. The game boasts a progression system with new spells, crafting recipes, and abilities. Players will be able to explore the continent in groups of four, fighting creatures and clearing vegetation.
The game is set to launch in early access this spring and runs on Unreal Engine 5. While opinions may vary among fans, the game’s colorful visuals and approachable gameplay mechanics have sparked enthusiasm among some. With its unique blend of survival and fantasy elements, Dragonwilds promises a fresh start for the RuneScape franchise.
