Russell Brand Charged With Multiple Counts of Rape and Sexual Assault

Russell Brand, 49, appeared in court on Friday facing charges of rape and sexual assault dating back a quarter century. He was granted conditional bail, with conditions that he must keep the court informed of his whereabouts.

Brand faces two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault, allegedly committed between 1999 and 2005 in England. The alleged offenses took place in Bournemouth and London.

Four women have made complaints against Brand, who has previously denied the allegations. A prosecutor read a summary of these complaints during the brief hearing.

Brand will attend the Old Bailey on May 30 and must abide by bail conditions that require him to stay informed about his living arrangements in either the UK or US.

The charges follow a joint investigation by British media outlets Channel 4 and Sunday Times, which began after allegations first surfaced. Brand had denied the claims but has since welcomed the opportunity to prove his innocence.
