Russell Brand Charged with Rape and Sexual Assault

British police have charged comedian Russell Brand with rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault following an 18-month investigation into four women’s allegations of non-consensual sex. The accusations date back to between 1999 and 2005 and involve three incidents in London and one in Bournemouth.

Brand, 50, denies any wrongdoing, saying he has “never engaged in non-consensual activity.” He was interviewed by police and has been granted the opportunity to defend himself in court.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) reviewed the evidence and concluded that Brand should be charged with the crimes. The CPS reminds everyone that criminal proceedings are active and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.

Brand faces five counts, including rape, oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault. He is due to appear in court on May 2.
