A Russian bomb reportedly struck power in the Ukrainian city of Slovyansk just hours after a call between President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump agreed to a 30-day ceasefire for energy infrastructure. The attack came despite both leaders announcing an agreement to halt attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said both leaders agreed to an “energy and infrastructure ceasefire” during the nearly two-hour phone call. However, Putin did not accept a full stop to his war on Ukraine, instead agreeing to technical negotiations for a complete ceasefire.
The Kremlin stated that Trump proposed a 30-day moratorium on attacks on energy infrastructure facilities, which Putin responded positively to. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed skepticism about the agreement, saying he needed more information before supporting it.
Despite the agreed ceasefire, Russian forces launched an aerial attack on Slovyansk’s energy plant, causing power losses in the city and surrounding area. Military sources confirmed that multiple cities, including Kyiv, were hit by drones attacking civilian infrastructure during the night.
Zelensky criticized Putin’s actions as “nighttime attacks” destroying Ukraine’s energy sector and normal life. He warned that if Russia attempts to prolong the war, the international community should respond accordingly.
