Russia Claims Control Over Ukrainian Region, Ukraine Denies

Russia claims it has regained full control over the Kursk region in Ukraine, but Kiev denies this, saying its forces remain on the ground. Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov stated that Russian forces had reclaimed the region, eight months after a surprise incursion by Ukrainian troops.

However, Ukrainian military officials say their operations continue in Kursk and Belgorod regions, facing 70,000 Russian troops and drone attacks. In a video conference with President Vladimir Putin, Gerasimov praised North Korean troops for helping defeat Ukrainian forces, while Putin called the Kyiv regime’s efforts a complete failure.

The situation comes as US President Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine were close to a deal on ending the war, but Ukraine is pushing for a full and unconditional ceasefire. The ongoing conflict over Kursk highlights Ukraine’s struggle to maintain control over its territory against Russian aggression.
