Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov met with Iranian ambassador Kazem Jalali to discuss international efforts on the Iranian nuclear program, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry. Their meeting took place on Thursday.
The Kremlin had previously stated that future talks between Russia and the US would include discussions on Iran’s nuclear program, following initial discussions last month. US President Donald Trump has renewed his “maximum pressure” campaign on Iran, aiming to reduce oil exports to zero to prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Iran denies any such intention.
Russia and Iran strengthened their ties since the Ukraine war began, signing a strategic cooperation treaty in January.
