Russia Foils Ukrainian Plot to Kill Senior Officers

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has foiled several plots by Ukraine to kill senior Russian officers, the agency announced on Thursday. Four Ukrainian citizens have been detained in connection with the attacks.

According to the FSB, a Ukrainian agent had planted a bomb under a car belonging to a Russian defense official. The agent was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services and arrived in Moscow from Ukraine in November 2024. Another agent attempted to deliver a bomb disguised as a gift to a Defense Ministry official but was apprehended before reaching the target.

The claims come as Russia continues to face allegations of being behind the killing of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, who was killed outside his apartment in Moscow earlier this month. Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) is suspected of being involved in the attack.

Meanwhile, Ukraine experienced power outages on Christmas Day due to a drone and missile attack that targeted its energy infrastructure. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attack as “inhumane” and attributed it to Russian aggression.
