Russia launched a barrage of drones and missiles on Ukraine on Saturday, killing at least 15 people and damaging dozens of residential buildings as well as energy infrastructure across the country. In Poltava, a Russian missile hit an apartment building, killing 11 people and wounding 16.
The attacks also injured one person in Kharkiv, northeast Ukraine, and killed three police officers patrolling streets in Sumy region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy blamed Russia for the attack on a boarding school dormitory in Russia’s Kursk region, where four people were reportedly killed.
Russian forces launched 123 drones and over 40 missiles, but their air defense units shot down 56 of the drones and redirected 61. The attacks targeted Ukraine’s gas infrastructure, with Russian forces also damaging energy facilities in several regions.
This latest attack marks one of many missile and drone strikes on Ukraine since March 2024, which have knocked out about half of the country’s available generating capacity. As the war approaches its three-year mark, both sides continue to use drones to disrupt military supply lines and hit infrastructure.
