Russia launched a massive drone attack on Ukraine overnight into Saturday, killing at least one person, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The attack, which involved over 300 drones and more than 30 cruise missiles, targeted the Black Sea port city of Odesa and damaged critical infrastructure in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region.
According to the mayor of Odesa, Hennadii Trukhanov, one person died when Russian forces attacked the city with drones and a missile. Five people were rescued from a fire in a residential high-rise building, while six others, including a child, were wounded in the attack.
The Ukrainian president thanked international leaders who have supported Ukraine’s defense capabilities, including joint weapons production, drone manufacturing, and air defense systems. However, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed to have shot down 71 Ukrainian drones and 13 others as they approached Moscow.
This is not the first time Russia has intensified its long-range attacks on Ukrainian cities, with analysts predicting that the barrages will escalate further. On July 8, Russia launched a record-breaking 700 drone attack on Ukraine.
