Overnight, more than 150 Russian drones targeted Ukraine, affecting six regions including Kyiv. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that 151 drones, primarily Shahed-type and imitation UAVs, were involved in the attack.
Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down 70 drones across 14 regions, while another 74 drones lost their course and crashed without causing any damage. Two drones remained airborne until 9 a.m., with the location of five unknown.
The attacks caused damage in Kyiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr, and Volyn regions. However, no casualties or critical infrastructure damage were reported, according to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration.
Russian air defense systems downed four drones over the Cherkasy region without incident, while Ukrainian authorities shot down 11 drones in Sumy. In Dnipropetrovsk, two drones were intercepted by air defenses.
Russia responded with its own drone strikes on eight Ukrainian regions and annexed Crimea, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. However, most of these drones were also shot down by Ukrainian air defense systems.
Russian authorities reported no injuries or significant damage from the attacks. The Federal Air Transport Agency temporarily restricted flights in St. Petersburg, Volgograd, and Nizhny Novgorod during the night and morning of Feb. 9 due to security concerns.
