Russia has summoned Norway’s chargĂ© d’affaires in Moscow to protest what it calls “unlawful restrictive measures” taken by Oslo against its fishing vessels operating in Norwegian waters. The move comes after Norway imposed sanctions on two Russian companies, Norebo and Murman Seafood, over concerns of espionage and sabotage.
The Norwegian government added the companies to its national sanctions list last month, effectively terminating a 1976 bilateral agreement on fisheries cooperation. Moscow has rejected this decision as “politically motivated,” claiming it is an attempt to restrict Russia’s fishing industry without evidence. The dispute highlights tensions between the two countries over trade and security issues.
