Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has rejected a proposed three-point peace plan for Ukraine, warning that Moscow will not accept the deployment of Western troops in the country. The alleged plan, which includes a ceasefire, elections, and a final peace agreement, was revealed by Fox News Senior White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich on February 18.
Lavrov stated that Russia would consider any Western military presence in Ukraine as a “direct threat” to its sovereignty. He claimed that even if troops operated under EU or national flags, it would still be a significant concern for Moscow.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the need for strong security guarantees in any peace agreement. The deployment of peacekeepers has been considered as one possible option.
The talks between Russia and the US in Saudi Arabia mark the first direct negotiations since the full-scale invasion began. However, tensions remain high, with Lavrov criticizing President Zelensky and suggesting that he should be “calmed down” following a Ukrainian drone strike on a Russian pumping station.
The two sides will continue to engage in diplomatic efforts to find a resolution to the conflict.
