Russia rejected swapping occupied territory with Ukraine’s capital Kyiv in any peace deal, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. This comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed the idea.
On Wednesday, Russia launched a deadly drone and missile attack on Kyiv, resulting in one person killed and at least four others wounded, including a child. The attack damaged apartment blocks, office buildings, and civilian infrastructure.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is “not preparing for peace — he continues to kill Ukrainians and destroy cities,” Zelenskyy wrote on social media after the strike. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy is set to meet US Vice President JD Vance on Friday to discuss possible negotiations that could end the war.
The attack marks a significant escalation in the conflict, which has cost tens of thousands of lives over three years. The Ukrainian air force shot down six missiles and 71 out of 123 drones, including Iranian-designed Shahed attack vehicles, during the barrage.
US President Trump’s special envoy for Russia and Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, is also scheduled to visit Ukraine next week to draw up a proposal to halt the fighting. The visit comes ahead of the three-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion on February 24.
