Russia launched multiple attacks on Ukraine overnight, killing at least 22 civilians and wounding over 80 others, according to officials. The strikes targeted a Ukrainian prison and a medical facility in the Zaporizhzhia region, as well as communities in other areas.
Four Russian glide bombs hit the Bilenkivska Correctional Facility, killing 17 inmates and injuring over 80 people. The attack also destroyed part of the prison’s dining hall and damaged administrative buildings.
In the Dnipro region, a three-story building was partially destroyed by Russian missiles, damaging nearby medical facilities, including a maternity hospital and city hospital ward. At least four people were killed, including a pregnant woman.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks, saying they were “conscious, deliberate strikes” that targeted civilian areas. The US has warned Russia to stop its attacks on civilians, with President Donald Trump giving Russian President Vladimir Putin 10-12 days to comply.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said it downed 74 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 43 over the Bryansk region. However, Ukraine has continued to develop its own long-range drone technology and hit Russian targets, disrupting commercial flights.
The strikes are part of Russia’s relentless campaign on civilian areas in Ukraine, which has killed dozens of people across the country. The US and other Western countries have called for an end to the violence, with Trump saying “everyone needs peace” except Russia.
