Russia Takes Control of Basivka Village in Ukraine’s Sumy Region

Russia has reportedly taken control of the village of Basivka in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region, according to its defense ministry. However, Ukrainian officials have denied this claim, stating that Russian forces are not in control and are attempting to infiltrate the area.

The fighting in the Sumy region border area is ongoing, with daily clashes reported in several areas. Russian forces have also reportedly defeated Ukrainian units in the Russian settlements of Gornal, Guevo, and Oleshnya.

Russia’s defense ministry claims it has gained significant territory, including Crimea, which it annexed in 2014, and parts of four other regions that Moscow now claims as its own. However, these claims are not recognized by most countries.

The situation remains complex, with Ukraine controlling around 63 square kilometers of Russian territory and Russia holding a little over one-fifth of the country.
