Russia has launched a series of attacks on the strategic city of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine, aiming to bypass it and cut off supply routes to Ukrainian troops. The attacks, which included 34 attempts by Russian forces over the past 24 hours, have raised concerns about the logistics challenges for Ukraine’s military.
Pokrovsk, home to a key mine that supplies coking coal to Ukraine’s steel industry, has seen its population reduced from 60,000 pre-war residents to around 11,000 remaining civilians. Ukrainian forces are using drones and precision weapons to prevent Russian troops from reaching their targets.
The city’s capture could create significant difficulties for Ukraine’s eastern front army, allowing Russia to reinforce and advance its front line to the west. The Ukrainian military has been working to maintain control of the area, but the situation remains tense.
