Russia-Ukraine War Enters 1,060th Day with Ongoing Violence

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has entered its 1,060th day, marked by ongoing violence and a complex web of diplomatic efforts. Here are the key developments on this day:

On Saturday, a Russian missile strike in Kyiv killed three people and wounded three more. In southern Zaporizhzhia, a Russian attack resulted in one death and 11 injuries. A mortar attack in Beryslav also claimed two lives.

Ukraine’s air force successfully downed two Iskander ballistic missiles and 24 Russian attack drones overnight.

In the eastern Donetsk region, Russia’s forces captured two villages, Vremivka and Petropavlivka. However, Ukraine responded by targeting an oil depot in Russia’s Tula region with a drone, causing a fire at a nearby industrial site.

The situation is also being watched over in Latvia, where nearly 550 Swedish soldiers have arrived to join a Canadian-led multinational brigade. Germany’s Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has expressed openness to sending German troops to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, US President-elect Donald Trump wants NATO members to dedicate 5 percent of their GDP to defence spending. Outgoing US ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield warned that global leadership could erode under a second Trump term.

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine continue to escalate, with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warning against cooperation in the Sea of Azov due to British military deployments.
