Russia Vows Retaliation After Ukraine Launches Largest Drone Attack

Russia’s military has vowed retaliation against Ukraine after launching its largest drone attack to date, striking deep into Russian territory with six US-made ATACMS missiles, six UK-made Storm Shadow cruise missiles, and a massive wave of drones. The attacks targeted oil storage facilities, refineries, chemical plants, and ammunition production sites in the Bryansk, Saratov, Tula, and Tatarstan regions.

Russia’s defense ministry claimed to have shot down all Western missiles fired at the Bryansk region, as well as 146 drones outside the war zone. However, Ukrainian officials said they struck as deep as 1,100 km into Russian territory, causing significant damage to industrial sites and infrastructure.

The attacks come after Ukraine launched similar missile strikes last year, prompting Russia to retaliate with its own intermediate-range hypersonic ballistic missile, “Oreshnik”. The conflict has left tens of thousands dead, millions displaced, and strained relations between Moscow and the West since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
