Russia’s Foreign Ministry has stated that it will continue its large oil and gas projects despite the new US sanctions imposed on Moscow’s energy sector. The ministry described the measures as an attempt to harm the Russian economy, risking global market instability.
The sanctions, which are the broadest package targeting Russia’s oil and gas revenues, target Gazprom Neft, Surgutneftegas, and 183 vessels that ship Russian oil. The US aims to use these sanctions to pressure Ukraine into reaching a deal to end the war in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy believes the measures will “deliver a significant blow” to Moscow, as reduced oil revenues may speed up peace restoration.
