Russia Warns of Global Catastrophe from Strikes on Iran Nuclear Facilities

Russia has issued a stern warning against potential military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, cautioning that such actions could lead to an “irreversible global catastrophe”. The Russian Foreign Ministry, citing threats made by US President Trump, stated that military force is “illegal and unacceptable” in the context of the Iran nuclear program settlement.

Tensions escalated after Trump threatened Iran with bombing and secondary tariffs if it fails to reach a deal with Washington regarding its nuclear program. The US has also deployed additional warplanes to the Middle East region. Russian officials, including Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, have warned that military action could spark a wider conflict, posing catastrophic risks for the entire region.

The dispute centers on Iran’s uranium enrichment activities, which Western powers claim exceed levels necessary for civilian purposes and indicate a covert weapons program. However, Tehran maintains its nuclear program is exclusively for peaceful energy production. Russia’s alliance with Iran has strengthened since January, when both countries signed a strategic partnership agreement that outlines mutual defense cooperation without a mutual attack clause.
