Russian Bridges Collapse in Border Regions, 7 Dead

A passenger train derailed in Russia’s Bryansk region after a bridge collapsed due to an explosion. Seven people died in the collapse, with over 60 injured, including three children. The incident occurred on a federal highway and was near a Ukrainian border.

The train was traveling from Klimov to Moscow when it came off its tracks. Initially, officials reported that the bridge had been damaged “as a result of illegal interference in transport operations.” However, Alexander Bogomaz, regional governor of Bryansk, later confirmed reports of an explosion at the bridge.

Russia’s Investigative Committee stated that a road bridge collapsed as a result of a blast in the Bryansk region. The disaster area is about 100 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, where Ukraine has not commented on the incident or the derailed train.

In another incident, just hours later, a second bridge collapsed in the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine. Russian investigators have classified both incidents as acts of terrorism. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Vladimir Putin had been briefed on the explosions at the two bridges.

These incidents follow Russia’s ongoing border clashes with Ukraine, including shelling, drone strikes, and covert raids since the full-scale invasion began over three years ago.
