Russian-Language Crime Forum Admin Arrested After 4-Year Investigation

Ukrainian authorities have arrested the suspected administrator of XSS.is, a notorious Russian-language crime forum, following a four-year investigation with French authorities and Europol’s help. The forum, which has been described as “one of the main hubs of global cybercrime” since 2013, was shut down shortly after the arrest.

The suspect was identified after authorities intercepted encrypted chats sent on a Jabber messaging server used by forum members. The intercepted messages revealed numerous illicit activities related to cybercrime and ransomware, generating at least $7 million in profits for the suspects. Ukrainian authorities detained the suspect, with both French and Europol authorities present, marking a significant blow to global cybercrime networks.
