Russian Missile Attack Kills One, Injures Three in Kyiv

A devastating Russian missile attack on Kyiv killed one man and injured three others overnight, causing widespread damage and fires across several districts. The strike marked the largest such attack on Ukraine in weeks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that ongoing attacks are Russia’s refusal to end the three-year-old war. He urged increased international efforts, particularly from the US, to supply air defence equipment.

Russian forces used ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones, during the attack. The Ukrainian air force reported damage caused by the strike, with fires still burning in several districts.

The attack comes after a recent surge in Russian strikes against Ukraine, with over 1,460 guided aerial bombs and nearly 670 drones launched in the past week alone. Zelenskiy called for the establishment of air defence production in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Poland scrambled its aircraft after receiving airspace warnings from Ukraine following reports of an impending attack. The country has been on high alert since a stray Ukrainian missile struck its territory in 2022, killing two people.

The Sunday strikes in Kyiv have added to concerns about civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict. Despite both sides denying targeting civilians, thousands of non-combatants have died in the war.
