A Russian ballistic missile strike on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy killed at least 34 people, mostly civilians, including two children. The strike occurred while many residents were celebrating Palm Sunday. Authorities reported that two missiles struck the center of the city, hitting multiple buildings, including residential ones.
Ukrainian officials condemned the attack, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy calling it a “terrible strike” that targeted ordinary people. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions have sparked strong reactions from world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and US officials.
Macron said Russia is to blame for the war and is choosing to continue it despite international pressure. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called the incident a “Russian version of a ceasefire”. The strike has also been widely condemned by human rights organizations and citizens around the world.
