At least 25 people have been killed in Ukrainian air strikes, with Russian forces targeting a prison and hospital in the southern Zaporizhzhia region. The deadliest attack occurred at the Bilenke penitentiary, where 16 inmates were killed and over 50 injured.
A separate strike on humanitarian aid queue left five dead in the Kharkiv region. Three more deaths were reported in the Dnipropetrovsk region, including a pregnant woman.
US President Donald Trump confirmed a deadline of August 8 for Russia to agree to a ceasefire, warning of sweeping sanctions if not met. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Moscow to stop killings and make peace through “tough” sanctions.
Russian forces have targeted the front-line region of Zaporizhzhia since 2022, one of four annexed regions in Ukraine. The attacks come as Russia’s troops push deeper into Ukrainian territory.
A separate rocket attack hit a hospital in Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region, killing three people, including a pregnant woman. Moscow denied claims of control over several villages in the region.
