A Ukrainian national was sentenced to life imprisonment in Finland for war crimes committed in Ukraine. Meanwhile, President Zelenskyy stated that Russia wants a “stronger position” militarily before committing to any ceasefire in the war.
Russian troops have retaken control of two settlements in the Kursk region of Russia as Moscow’s advances continue against occupying Ukrainian forces. The British Prime Minister said Russia must prove serious about peace, and Western military leaders will meet on Thursday to discuss contributing peacekeepers.
Russia and Ukraine continued their aerial attacks against each other, with over 100 enemy drones reported on both sides. Zelenskyy stated that the question of territory after the war is “complicated” and should be discussed in detail at a later date.
The US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire was rejected by Russia earlier this week. The British Prime Minister said the Kremlin’s dithering over the proposal ran counter to President Putin’s stated desire for peace. France’s Emmanuel Macron expressed doubts about Russia’s intention to halt fighting with Ukraine, saying the country “doesn’t give the impression of wanting peace in earnest.”
Ukraine’s Defence Minister Umerov met with his Czech counterpart to discuss military assistance and battlefield needs. The Ukrainian defence minister thanked the Czech Republic for its support since the start of Russia’s war.
The war has dragged on for three years, and Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on Russia to work towards a “just peace” in Ukraine after three years of bloody conflict.
