Director Justin Baldoni has filed a $250 million lawsuit against the New York Times, claiming the outlet misled the public about an incident involving actor Ryan Reynolds and his wife, actress Blake Lively. According to court documents, Baldoni inquired about Lively’s weight due to back issues and a scene where he would need to lift her co-star. However, the inquiry was misinterpreted, leading to what Baldoni claims was aggressive berating by Reynolds.
Baldoni alleges that Reynolds “berated” him for making a “reasonable and good-faith” question about Lively’s weight. The filmmaker claims that weeks before the premiere of their film “It Ends With Us”, Reynolds aggressively confronted him at their penthouse, accusing him of “fat-shaming” Lively. Baldoni says he continued to bend to Lively’s will to avoid further confrontation with the couple.
Baldoni’s lawsuit also accuses the New York Times of relying on an unverified narrative from Lively, which was allegedly presented as factual. The filmmaker’s legal team claims that Reynolds’ berating was “delivered, perhaps intentionally, as other celebrity friends were coming in and out of their penthouse.”
