MSI has acknowledged the issue and launched an investigation. The company’s team found that CPU installation in the wrong orientation or incorrect socket alignment led to short circuits, causing the burnouts.
However, there is also a possibility that MSI motherboards have defective sockets, which could be contributing to the problem. Inspectors noticed damage to the plastic borders of the MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi socket, potentially preventing users from setting the CPU correctly.
It’s essential to note that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D burnouts are distinct from the issues reported with Ryzen 7000 CPUs, which were caused by motherboard firmware over-pushing the SoC voltage.
