AMD has unveiled its latest high-end processors, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D. According to Martijn Boonstra, AMD Product and Business Development Manager, these chips will offer similar overall gaming performance to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, one of the best gaming CPUs on the market.
The main difference between the new processors and the existing Ryzen 7 9800X3D lies in their core count. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D features 16 cores, while the Ryzen 9 9900X3D has 12 cores. However, games that utilize more than eight cores are relatively rare.
Boonstra noted that some games may perform slightly better on the new processors, but overall, the experience is comparable. The chips are expected to outperform Intel’s latest top chips in productivity and creator apps, particularly when using multi-threaded creator apps like Photoshop.
AMD plans to market these new processors to professionals and creators who also enjoy gaming, while the Ryzen 7 9800X3D will target the general gamer enthusiast market.
Pricing for the new processors has not been released yet, but based on historical data, it’s expected that they will be priced around $629 for the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and $729 for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. However, AMD will reveal actual pricing closer to launch.
The launch of these new processors may alleviate pressure on finding the Ryzen 7 9800X3D in the market, but gamers and enthusiasts should still be cautious of fake listings and counterfeit products.
In reality, top-end gaming performance is not significantly impacted by CPU upgrades, especially for games running at resolutions above 1080p. A strong GPU and fast storage are more crucial factors in determining overall system performance. The focus on gaming performance is often a marketing tactic to sell premium components to gamers who already invest heavily in building high-performance systems.
As Jowi Morales points out, buying high-end CPUs is mainly for applications that require multiple cores, such as productivity and work-related tasks, rather than gaming.
