A mother’s grief still lingers three years after her son’s fatal crash on San Francisquito Canyon Road. Gabriela Thomas, whose son was killed in a head-on collision with a white BMW at over 90mph, is calling for more urgent action. The recent safety study, conducted in collaboration with the CHP and community partners, has identified speed as a primary factor in most collisions. The county plans to install delineators along the curve and implement other road improvements to reduce incidents. However, residents are still waiting for results from ongoing projects, including a six-month monitoring period of the delineators.
Supervisor Kathryn Barger initiated the study, which aims to develop a robust Community Traffic Safety Plan. She emphasizes the importance of striking a balance between moving quickly and conducting thorough science-based assessments. With many projects still in design, it remains to be seen whether these measures will effectively address the safety concerns on San Francisquito Canyon Road.
