Saif Ali Khan’s Stabbing Attack: Police Identify Bangladesh National Accused

A Bangladeshi national, Shariful Islam Shehzad, allegedly broke into actor Saif Ali Khan’s home in Mumbai to commit robbery and stabbed him multiple times. The police have found that Shariful planned to travel to Bangladesh but was arrested from Thane after he couldn’t get a train ticket to Howrah.

The investigation is ongoing, with the police tracking down all the travel agents Shariful spoke to for questioning. Saif Ali Khan suffered six stab injuries and has been discharged from hospital. He will now undergo bed rest for a week and not receive visitors to prevent infection.

Police recreated the crime scene by taking Shariful to Saif’s Bandra home, where they found that the intruder used the air-conditioning duct to enter Mr Khan’s home through a window in one of the bathrooms. Shariful had removed his shoes and switched off his phone to avoid noise.

A nanny for Saif’s sons reported seeing the intruder at around 2 am, who then attacked her. The police have found Shariful’s face mask from Jahangir’s room, which is being sent for forensic testing.

The police identified Shariful after scanning CCTV footage of the building and noticing him leaving after the attack. They tracked down his bike and questioned people living in a rented accommodation in Worli where he lived with three others. After a lengthy exercise, they found Shariful hiding on a deserted road in Thane and took him into custody.

Shariful is a Bangladesh national who illegally crossed into India months back. Saif Ali Khan has returned home after spending five days at hospital, where doctors advised him to rest for now.
