Saints Finalize OC Deal with Experienced Coach Doug Nussmeier

The New Orleans Saints are nearing completion of a deal to appoint Doug Nussmeier as their new offensive coordinator. This marks Nussmeier’s first NFL coaching position, having previously held roles in college football at several top programs, including Florida, Michigan, and Alabama. He will join current coach Dennis Moore on the Saints’ staff, with whom he has collaborated at various stops, including stints with the Cowboys, Chargers, and Eagles. Nussmeier’s extensive background in coaching includes experience as a quarterbacks coach for multiple teams, most recently with the Rams and Eagles in 2006-07 and 2024, respectively. A native of Louisiana, where the Saints are based, Nussmeier was drafted by the team in 1994 but only played five games over two seasons before transitioning to the Canadian Football League. His coaching career began in 1997, and he will now lead the Saints’ offense as they seek a boost from his connection with his son, LSU quarterback Garrett, who is heavily favored for the Heisman Trophy in 2025.
