Saints QB Spencer Rattler Brings Unconventional Preparation to Lambeau Field

New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler prepared for Monday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers by running through plays in a walk-in freezer at the team’s cafeteria, where temperatures reached 10 degrees. The unusual method was inspired by the movie “Cool Runnings,” in which an Olympic bobsledder prepares for cold conditions.

Rattler’s quarterbacks coach, Andrew Janocko, came up with the idea after coaching in the NFC North from 2015 to 2023 and wanted to provide a different way of preparing for cold weather. The team also ruled out injured players Derek Carr (hand) and Alvin Kamara (groin), who missed practice all week.

Rattler will start his first game at Lambeau Field in place of the injured Carr, while Chris Olave practiced in limited capacity after returning from a long injury reserve stint due to concussions. The Saints’ interim coach, Darren Rizzi, expressed optimism about Kamara’s recovery and suggested that Rattler is ready for his fourth start of the season.
