Saints QB Tyler Shough Signs Fully Guaranteed Contract

New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Tyler Shough has agreed to a fully guaranteed contract, his agent confirmed to ESPN on Saturday. The deal, which was struck before training camp began this week, is projected to be worth nearly $10.8 million over four years.

Shough, the 40th overall pick in the draft, was one of several second-round players who remained unsigned into July. His situation was complicated by the Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns’ decision to fully guarantee the contracts for Jayden Higgins and Carson Schwesinger, setting a precedent for other players taken in the round.

However, with deadlines looming, deals started to get done across the league last week. Shough’s signing follows several others, including defensive lineman Alfred Collins (49ers), safety Nick Emmanwori (Seahawks), guard Jonah Savaiinaea (Dolphins), running back TreVeyon Henderson (Patriots), and wide receiver Luther Burden III (Bears).

Shough expressed confidence in the deal being completed during an interview with The Times-Picayune in June, saying he was “super optimistic” it would get done. With the contract now signed, Shough can focus on getting acclimated for training camp and competing for the starting job, where he’ll face competition from Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener.
