Sam Altman Denies Sister’s Abuse Allegations in Joint Statement

Sam Altman, CEO of Open AI, has responded to a lawsuit filed by his sister Ann, accusing him of sexual abuse for nearly a decade. In a joint statement with his mother and brothers, Altman denied the allegations as “utterly untrue.” The family claims that Ann’s refusal to seek conventional treatment for her mental health challenges makes caring for her difficult.

Ann Altman alleges that the abuse began when she was 3 years old and continued until she was 11 or 12. She is seeking at least $75,000 in damages and has filed a complaint in St. Louis federal court. The lawsuit claims that the alleged abuse included various acts of rape, assault, molestation, and battery.

OpenAI was co-founded by Altman and other tech entrepreneurs in 2015. In March 2024, Tesla CEO Elon Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, arguing it breached its founding mission as a not-for-profit company by creating a for-profit structure.
