Sam & Dave Singer Sam Moore Dies at 89

Sam Moore, the sole surviving member of the legendary 1960s duo Sam & Dave, has passed away at the age of 89. Moore died on Friday morning in Coral Gables, Florida, due to complications from surgery.

As one half of the iconic duo, Moore was known for his powerful voice and influential music that spanned genres like soul, R&B, and rock. He was a key figure in the Stax Records era, alongside Otis Redding, and recorded hits like “Soul Man,” “Hold On, I’m Comin’,” and “I Thank You.”

Moore’s impact on music extended beyond his own work; he inspired musicians such as Michael Jackson, Al Green, and Bruce Springsteen. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 alongside his former partner Dave Prater.

Despite facing personal struggles and financial issues, Moore continued to perform and record music throughout his life. He was a frequent performer at the Kennedy Center Honors and sang for presidents like Obama. Moore also made headlines with lawsuits over copyright claims, particularly after the release of the movie “Soul Men” in 2008.

Sam Moore is survived by his wife Joyce, daughter, and two grandchildren. His legacy as a soul music icon will continue to be celebrated through his timeless hits and enduring influence on future generations of musicians.
