Sam Mendes, the Oscar-winning director of films like American Beauty and Skyfall, has announced his upcoming four-part Beatles biopics. The cast includes Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.
Mendes made a surprise appearance on stage with the Fab Four at CinemaCon in Las Vegas to confirm that all four films will be released in April 2028. He stated that making one film wouldn’t do justice to the band’s story and wanted to explore their culture for a new generation.
The project has received the blessing of McCartney, Starr, Lennon, and Harrison’s families, marking the first time they’ve granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film. The films will cover each band member individually, building on the legacy of the iconic 18 biopics already made about the Beatles.
Mendes expressed his excitement to tell the epic story of the Beatles, who changed musical history with their numerous albums, hit singles, and features like A Hard Day’s Night and Let It Be. The project is a significant addition to the existing body of work on the band, including acclaimed films like Backbeat and Nowhere Boy.
